Nintendo alongside Illumination released the debut comprehensive teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. It was showcased in a Nintendo-focused broadcast that centered on the upcoming animated film.
The follow-up to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this new installment will send Mario to the distant reaches of the cosmos. Along the way, he discovers a fresh princess character and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the offspring of the Koopa King.
In the vein of the games from the Wii period that act as its source material, Mario will leave behind the familiar comforts of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. Throughout his extensive trek, he will encounter once more some recognizable characters, such as the Luma, a breakout star from the previous film.
But it appears Mario and his sibling Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who seemingly commands metallic abilities. Worth mentioning, the trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also features references to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
The feature will feature once again of the initial voice actors, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to represent Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
Mario's latest cinematic adventure is scheduled to arrive around the time of the 40-year celebration of the first Super Mario Bros. title. In addition to the movie, 2026 promises to be a major period for Mario and his friends.
Nintendo confirmed three new games publicly declared for the upcoming year, such as Mario Tennis Fever, a version for Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a new Yoshi platformer titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
